The Story

I was not a soap user before. Though I travelled frequently, I carried bottles of cleaning products. Despite many incidents of spillage, I never turned to soap. It has everything to do with the soggy, gross soaping experience.

In late 2019, my father passed away. Then the pandemic hit, and the world stopped. I was in Taiwan and had to find something to keep myself busy and motivated. One of the ads popped up on Facebook, and I signed up to learn how to make and design soaps. I enjoyed the creative process, and using soaps beautifully designed lifted my spirits. I soon realized I drastically reduced the number of bottles; soap is a great tool to combat plastic pollution. At the same time, I encountered issues; soaps turned soggy; limited counter space only allowed one soap dish. To encourage people to use soap to reduce plastic bottles, I must solve these two problems.

I took skyscrapers as the inspiration to have one soap dish host multiple soaps. With a friend's help, we used 3D technology printing out samples and testing; it took 6 runs to get it right. As a professional soap maker, I understand ventilation is the key to extending a soap's life. Keeping soaps in an upright position allows for maximum airflow. I have the design, but I need material to meet our mission of "Reducing plastic pollution, one soap bar at a time." With the help of the Taiwan Trade Association, I located a manufacturer with the new material - TEXa.

The Bioplastic Multi-Bar soap caddy is made with renewable, sustainable, patented material. SOCS's bar soap caddy, a self-draining soap dish, accommodates up to 3 soaps in different shapes and sizes.
